CMSGT Edward L. Benningfield, Jr. (Ed) entered into eternal rest on Thursday, July 12, 2018 at theage of 79. He was born on December 8, 1938 to Edward Lee Benningfield, Sr and Minnie Humphry Benningfield in Louisville, Kentucky

Ed served 26 years in the U. S. Air Force Security Service (USAFSS) and Electronic Security Command (ESC). He was trained in 1957 as a Manual Morse Systems Operator and served 26 years in his career field. He completed overseas tours of duty in Taiwan, Japan, Vietnam, and Germany. During his Air Force career, he was awarded two Meritorious Service Medals, four Air Force Commendation Medals, one Air Force Achievement Medal. He was awarded Air Crew Member Wings for Aerial copmbat in Vietnam and two Air Medals. Following retirement from the Air Force, Ed worked 13 years for Betac Corporation in San Antonio as Program Manager in support of an Air Force Operational Test and Evaluation (OTE) contract with the Electronic Security Command.

Ed is preceded in death by his parents, Edward, Sr. and Minnie Benningfield. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Mavis M. (Scott) Benningfield; sons Edward J. Benningfield of San Antonio, Texas, Timothy . Benningfield of Annapolis, Maryland, Christopher A. Benningfield of Round Rock, Texas; six grandchildren; sister, Carol Ann (Benningfield) Elder of Troy, Illinois; and brother, George W. Benningfield of Louisville, Kentucky

Visitation will begin Sunday, July 22, 2018 from 3:00 p.m. at Castle Ridge Mortuary with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass to be held on Monday, July 23, 2018 at 9:00 a.m. at St. Anthony Mary Claret Catholic Church. Interment to follow at Fort Sam Houston Naitonal Cemetery at 11:15 a.m. Shelter 2.
