Joeseph F. Rebeiro, 52, of Frackis, a former lieutenant in the Providence Fire Department, died Tuesday at an Athens hospital. He was the husband of Mary (koufoudakis) Rebeiro. Born in Providence, a son of the late Joseph and Anna (Racofsky) Rebeiro, he lived in Pawtucket for 15 years before moving to Greece two years ago.

Mr. Rebeiro was chief dispatcher in the fire alarm division of the Providence Fire Deaprtment. He was appointed Sept 4, 1962. He was promoted to lieutenant Jan 20, 1974, and retired Sept 29, 1990. He received many departmental commendations. Providence Battalion Chief Curtis Varrone said Mr. Rebeiro was extraordinarily professional.

Mr. Rebeiro was associated with the Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, Providence, from 1960 until 1980. He was chief of mainentance at Temple Emanu-El, Providence, for five years.

He was an Air Force veteran, served four years, and was stationed at the Ankara Air Force Base, Turkey. He was a member of the LaSalle Academy Alumni Association, the Providence Firefighters Union, Local 799, and the Providence Police and Firefighters Association.

Besides his wife, he leaves two brothers, Robert V. and Raymond A. Rebeiro, and a sister, Elizabeth A. Demers all of NOrth Providence.

A memorial Mass will be celebrated tomorrow at 9 a. m. at St. Lawrence Church, Woonasquatucket Avenue, North Providence. The funeral and burial were in Athens.
