Retired Chief Petty Officer Elmer Daniel "Dan" Wynne, Jr., 72, passed away at his residence June 15, following a lengthy illness. He was born August 15, 1942, in Adel, GA to Elmer Daniel Wynne and Jewel Hobby Wynne. Dan faithfullly served his country for 8 years in the U. S. Air Force and returned to Jacksonville where he enlisted in the U. S. Navy, serving 12 years until he retired in 1979 as a Data Processing Technician Chief. Following retirement, he was employed by the Jacksonville Shipyards until 1992 when the shipyards closed. He then became self-employed as a Consultant specializing in COBOL/CICS/VAM with IBM and thereafter became permanently employed by IBM until his retirement in 2005. Dan was a devoted family man and was an avid Georgia Bulldog fan, Go Dawgs! Dan was preceded in death by his father, Elmer Daniel Wynne.
Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 47 years, Sandra Wynne of Callahan, his mother Jewel Wynne Johns (91) of Jacksonville; his son Daniel Dowaine (Judy) Wynne of Hilliard; his daughter Melody (Richard) Tingley of Jacksonville; four grandchildren Daniel Dowaine "DJ" Wynne, Jr., Brittney (Pete) Bushey, Zoie (Ryan) Harper and Riley Tingley; his great-granddaugher Delainee Bushey; his sisters Betty Bennett and Martha Jones; his brother James Ronald (Mullet) Wynne; along with many other relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends Thursday, June 18, from 11 - 11:45 a. m. in the Chapel of Callahan Funeral Home. Interment with Military Honors will be held in the Jacksonville National Cemetery at 12:30 p. m.
